Birdy bungalows
Updated: Jul 29, 2019
In between family dinners talking Star Wars, Harry Potter, or who would win in a battle between Yoda and Dumbledore, we spent a few family dinners talking about what kind of adventures we might embark on during our Camp Daddy time. One of the ideas we came up with was to upgrade some of our current bird houses. To be honest, the current bird houses have gone to the birds.
Hahahahahahahaha!
Ahem.
Of course our campers don't pay any tuition here at the Camp Daddy all inclusive resort. But we found these little birdhouses at Michaels for $0.99! One thing I love about our boys -- they always think big. They were far more interested in the multi-level bird condos, castles, and rocket ship shaped bird houses, than in these little bungalows, but I convinced them that we could return for bigger houses after the birds got used to these.
Since it was a rainy day here at Camp Daddy base camp, we dove in to our first project. We already had these Faber-Castell paint sets which are good for all sorts of projects AND they clean up easily. As a bonus, they only come with primary colors (yellow, blue, and red) plus white and black, so there's some educational value to what colors you mix to create other colors. We consulted Alexa a couple of times for this, but she was less than helpful when she suggested brown was a mix of magenta ink and blue ink. None of us knew exactly what magenta was, but as always, Dylan broke the code by making orange and then adding some black.
So with paints and birdhouses in hand, we set off to create beautiful new houses for our little feathered friends.
We spent about 90 minutes mixing paint colors, painting birdhouses, and arguing over paintbrushes. But the boys are proud of their completed work. As soon as it stops raining, we will hang these in the yard and then watch to see who moves in!
